Production Diary
Day 1 filming - 14/11/14
Today we filmed some shots for the first part of our opening sequence. We filmed the first establishing shot from the front of the school which will act as our first scene to show the audience where the story takes place. The first few establishing shots were jerky and we had people in them which meant that we couldn't use them and we had to re-do them. In these scenes I helped to set up the camera and also acted as the friend in the first few scenes which we did after school.
Day 2 filming - 19/11/14
This day of filming I was unable to attend because I was in another lesson which meant that I couldn't ataend the rehearsal. Instead of being there I logged the footage for this day. The footage is mainly the abduction scene. Due to me not being able to be at the filming Becky had to step in and play the kidnapper.
Day 3 Filming - 26/11/14
In this filming I took a camera home and had to film the scene in which I am on the phone to Beth. I used three different angles to see which one looked the best and fitted with what looked good in reference to the mise-en-scene. I also had to film with three different angles due to sometimes I messed up my lines and i thought that by ahving different angles we would be able to use the best moments.
Day 4 Filming - 8/12/14
On this day we decided that we needed to re-film most of our first scene. I helped to set-up the camera so that this time we had continuity between our shots. I then acted as Josh and filmed my scene again with this time the shot looking a lot better because we focused on what the shot looked like. This time we made sure that we had a matched cut of Josh stepping up to go over the wall and then matched it with a shot of Josh's foot on the wall and then his foot hitting the ground. This was something that we thought would make our production look better because before Josh was about to climb over the wall and then he is suddenly behind the girls which didn't make sense. This was why we had a big focus on what that shot looked like because it was one that we identified as being weak. I then went and filmed the abduction scene again we decided that the first time around the kidnapper was not as strong as they needed to be. This time I acted in as the kidnapper and I made sure that I was more rough so that the scene felt more realistic when watching it. This was soemthing that defiantly helped us to make this scene more believable.
Post-Production Diary
Day 1 Editing - Monday 24th November 2014
Today I edited all of the scenes that we had gor up to. I put all of the scenes in order for our story to progress. The main point for my editing was to put shots together so we could start to establish the narrative of our production. However when I was editing I found that we have too much footage which means that we will go over the allocated time allowance. However we made a decision that it would be best to end our opening sequence after the Phone call. I also started work on our first few title scenes, I made a rough draft of what our title will look like.
Day 2 Editing - Wednesday 26th November 2014
Day 3 Editing - Title Production - Thursday 27th November 2014

This is the stranger titles that are shown at the beginning of our production.
Day 4 Editing - Wednesday 10th December 2014
In this session I started helping Becky with the titles that will show our cast members and people who helped. We had already made a basis of our titles but needed to finish them off so we made them a bit smaller due to them taking up loads of room on the screen. We want our titles to represent the online world so we tried to find a font that showed that so we used Orator STD. We decided that the titles needed to represent the style of the film and if we could we wanted to try and make them look like a text message that was appearing on the screen.

Day 2 Editing - Wednesday 26th November 2014
In today’s lesson I went and made the title trials for our
company logo. I had to design and then create using after effects the company/production
intro. It was tricky as I couldn’t get my head around the transformations that
I had to use. I decided that for the practise one I would just call the company
Angel Productions. I got a background of the night sky with the moon and clouds
and then cropped some Angel wings. I made the wings move up and as they moved
up the production company name came down from the top and landed in the middle.
I didn’t like this introduction but when it comes to making the real thing I
think that the final one will look a lot better than this one of the trial run.
Today I made the opening title trials for our film which we
decided would be called ‘Stranger’ I made the title trials on after effects I used
a green pixel background and then made the titles stand out by using a white
glow effect on the titles. We decided that these would be the titles that we
would use for our real thing. I also started designing the Cosmic Studios production company titles and we decided that we wanted a similar theme for this opening sequence as the stranger ones. In order to make these titles I had to use after effects to make a good title.

This is the Cosmic Studios titles that I made. This is the production company that we designed and is much like the Stranger ones. I made these by using Adobe Aftereffects, I found using the program tedious at first but after a few failed attempts I was able to make titles that benefited our production.

Shot Log
This is the shot log that looks at the different shots that we had in our filming process. We looked at each piece of footage and then decided based off of that which clips were the best to use. This helped us to be able to find the best footage to use for our opening sequence. Both myself and Becky produced this because we wanted a collective agreement.
A shot log is essential to our production so that we know
what worked in some shots and what didn’t and also so that the footage that we
use is the best possible footage we have out of all of the shots that we got. This
also helps us to know that if we need to re-film something then we know not
what to do and what we could do to make sure that the end result is better than
the first takes. In this instance in some of our shots we have people mess up
their lines, so by making a shot log we know which shots they mess up their
lines on so we know that we shouldn’t use that shot.
